OUR HISTORY
Vision and Early Days
The vision for riverside CHAPEL is that people would have: Victory over anything and everything that gets in the way of God’s will for their lives. In order for that to happen we knew that community was paramount. God didn’t design the church to be a Sunday club, but rather a family to belong to. People that you can navigate the high’s and low’s of life with, as you wrestle with the tension of living for God’s glory in the here and now and the struggles of this life. Pastor Scott received a prophetic word that riverside CHAPEL would be built “brick by brick” by God’s hand, we just need to stay faithful and follow His leading. Initially, Riverside gathered in houses fostering a sense of family and belonging. This intimacy laid the foundation for what was to become a vibrant community of faith. As the church grew, Riverside transitioned to Saturday night services in the church building at 500 W Front St.
Growth and Community Engagement
The COVID-19 pandemic introduced challenges in figuring out how to minister to those in need and to those that were seeking to know more about Jesus, but like every other church faced with pandemic restrictions and new norms, we sought the Lord and moved in the ways He led us. Riverside adapted by hosting patio services in order to keep our gatherings to smaller numbers while offering live streaming weekend services, ensuring that the community remained connected. In October 2020, riverside CHAPEL officially launched its first in person Sunday morning Services, marking a significant milestone in its journey. From the very beginning we wanted to be a church that was involved in our community by being a part of what our community does and offering events and ministries that would have an impact on the families in our surrounding community. Every year our leadership team gets together to pray to mark off dates on our calendar to both participate in local events, as well as host multiple events throughout the year, in order to add value to the people of Florence and surrounding areas. We take pride on being a community church as we exist to show the love of Jesus to the world.
Vision for the Future
At riverside CHAPEL, we believe that healthy churches are composed of people that have found life and redemption through a relationship with Jesus. We also believe that God wants the world to know of His love, and in order for us to do our part in that we want to see His grace on display throughout the world. We have partnerships through the C&MA with international missionaries all throughout the world, as well as locally in our state. We are currently partnering with other churches in a non-profit called “Center City Network” to plant multiple churches and restoration centers in and around the city of Trenton in the next 10 years. We’re excited and honored to be able to play our part in building His Kingdom.
Conclusion
From its inception, riverside CHAPEL has desired to stand as a beacon of hope in Florence, NJ. Under the direction of our leadership team, riverside CHAPEL continues to grow, serving as a testament to what happens when
God’s faithfulness and grace, meets peoples surrender and pursuit. Unless the Lord builds the house,
it’s laborers labor in vain.
